Running into a problem? Is the game acting up? Can’t seem to start your antarctic adventure? Let’s start off by taking some more generic steps in fixing your problem:

  • Does your computer run on Windows 7? Unfortunately Windows 7 isn’t supported anymore. Some people have been able to solve this problem by running the game as an administrator.
  • Run the game as administrator. Go to ‘C:\ProgramFiles(x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\We Were Here‘ and find We Were Here.exe Right-click the .exe file. Click ‘run as administrator’
  • Instead of creating a room, try ‘Invite Friend’
  • Clear your save and configure files! 
    Right click on We Were Here, click on ‘Properties‘ and uncheck ‘Enable Steam Cloud synchronization’ under ‘Updates‘. Now go to C:\Users\<replace-your-pc-name>\AppData\LocalLow\Total Mayhem Games. Delete the We Were Here folder. Start up the game normally.
  • Verify file integrity.
    Right click on We Were Here, click on properties and go to the ‘Local Files‘ tab.
    Select ‘Verify Integrity of Game Files‘.
  • Check your firewall settings & whitelist programs. Make sure none of these block We Were Here.
  • Check minimal and recommended requirements:
    Windows

    Mac OS X

  • Try a different server.

Sometimes firewalls or anti-virus programs prevent you from playing our games. Check the settings, lower the security if possible or whitelist our game.

In order to play We Were Here, you need a duopartner. If you don’t have someone already, you can either join a room, create a room or go to our Discord and try to find a partner: https://discord.gg/eSbpKJy

  • Make sure you have selected the right microphone and headset in you audio settings of your computer. Test if you can hear each other via a different application such as like Discord.
  • Try not to talk at the same time, the idea of walkie-talkies is that you cannot talk simultaneously.
  • Instead of ‘Create a room‘, click on ‘Invite friend’.
  • Make sure all your controllers are unpluged.
  • Go to Steam Settings and uncheck all controllers in ‘general controller settings’

XBOX ONE

  • First check whether you can hear each other via Xbox Party Chat. If so, great! You’re headsets are working properly.
  • To hear each other in-game all you have to do is press the left button.
  • Check your Xbox Privacy settings in ‘Account’, then ‘Xbox Live privacy’, then ‘Communication & multiplayer’ and go to ‘View details & customize’ and adjust to ‘Everybody’.
